We are Katerina Lydon and Andrew Warner, the Principal operators of Fletcher Farm, husband and wife. Although our backgrounds are mainly in the arts, we both have extensive culinary, marketing, technology/ecommerce experience. We have four boys that have essentially moved forward with individual interests. However, you are likely to see them in our social media posts and in our farm blogs, as they help us out here quite often.
Currently, we are in the research and development phase of this venture, Maintaining our enrollment through phase ii at Rutgers University’s Agriculture Extension Program (RUReady2Farm). This incredible (and fairly new) program will facilitate and broaden our understanding of the many aspects essential to a successful agricultural business. With this mentorship, and knowledge from previous business experiences, we hope to bring farmstead deliverables and value added products to the list of staples of Fletcher Farm.
Fletcher Farm started with five or so acres, a six stall horse stable, an empty chicken coop and a single red wheelbarrow. But what it has given us in return is the opportunity to learn literally from the ground up. It has allowed us to investigate tried and true measures and best practices from those who have farmed before us. It has already tested our resilience as coworkers and offered our family the capacity to learn from each other in process. It has pressed us to use our mettle and academic curiosity to further our understanding of nature, and what it is to be a responsible and sustainable farm. While there is a great deal that remains to be done, that, we have learned, is the very process of becoming a farmer. #patience #self-reliance #respectfornature #custodiansofourenvironment
Fletcher Farm will specialize in culinary herbs, niche crops and value added farm products such as baked goods, soaps, and oils. As well as farm specific merchandise. While focused the farm’s future, we will employ sustainable farming techniques, dense produce permaculture, fruit and nut trees, as well as a small group of livestock which will add to the poultry concern. We know that food grown on healthy land with responsible farming practices is essential for a renewable future. #theroadtoasustainablefuture #organicfarming #ethicalfarming
